Atopic Dermatitis – This is a long-term type of inflammation and results in itchy, red, swollen and sometimes cracked skin. The skin might thicken over time, or ooze a clear liquid. This condition occurs from any age, but typically starts in childhood, with changing severity over the years.
In children under one year of age, most of the body may be affected but as children get older, the areas on the insides of the knees and elbows are most commonly affected.
In adults, the hands and feet are most commonly affected.
Scratching the affected areas will worsen and could lead to skin infections. Scratching may even occur during sleep that is why it is important to bring the symptoms under control as soon as possible.
