hello. we help with Eczema
Eczema is an inflammation of your skin and normally results it itchy patches, redness or a rash.
In some cases there might be small blisters that appear over a short period, but long term sufferers make have skin that becomes thickened. These areas could be either small patches or could be quite extensive all over the body.
There is no clear cause for the condition and often treatment is symptomatic. We look at treatment holistically and try and pinpoint triggers such as potential allergens, hypersensitivity or even stress.
Allergic contact dermatitis is the manifestation of an allergic response caused by contact with a substance i.e. pets.
Atopic Dermatitis – This is a long-term type of inflammation and results in itchy, red, swollen and sometimes cracked skin. The skin might thicken over time, or ooze a clear liquid. This condition occurs from any age, but typically starts in childhood, with changing severity over the years.
In children under one year of age, most of the body may be affected but as children get older, the areas on the insides of the knees and elbows are most commonly affected.
In adults, the hands and feet are most commonly affected.
Scratching the affected areas will worsen and could lead to skin infections. Scratching may even occur during sleep that is why it is important to bring the symptoms under control as soon as possible.
Irritant contact dermatitis can be divided into two categories:
a. Chemical irritants – Detergents, surfactants, extremes of pH, and organic solvents all directly affect the barrier properties of the skin and can cause dermatitis (eczema)
b. Physical irritants – physical irritant contact dermatitis results from prolonged rubbing on the skin and examples include paper friction, fibreglass, and scratchy clothing.
